A nursing home in Kildare is celebrating the World Cup in unique style - by hosting a 'Rio Beach Party'.
The residents of Curragh Lawn will be relaxing in the sand with palm trees, parrots, Mardi-Gras masks, face-painting and cocktails, while celebrating with their families.
It is all part of the effort to mark 'Nursing Homes Week 2014' which celebrates positivity in nursing home care.
The theme for the national celebration organised by Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI), which runs until June 22nd, is 'Quality Living, Quality Care'.
In addition to these celebrations, there will be more traditional nursing home events such as family days, garden parties, barbeques, music and dance, arts and crafts, reminiscence sessions, poetry, story-telling, activity days, and showings of old films.
"Nursing Homes Week 2014 is about celebrating and recognising the positivity of nursing home care in Ireland and bringing attention to novel events that enrich the day-to-day lives of residents that the public may not be aware of" said Tadhg Daly, Nursing Homes Ireland CEO.
"Nursing homes enhance the quality of life of persons living within them and there is wonderful care, friendship, camaraderie and happiness within such settings. Residents will lead the celebrations that will bring their family, relatives, friends, and staff who provide them with care, together" he added.
NHI represents over 350 private and voluntary nursing homes across Ireland.
