State-approved hair regulations were rolled out in Pyongyang earlier this month across the country, replacing the previous 18 styles people were reportedly allowed to choose from.
The hairstyle is a departure from his predecessor Kim Jong-Il’s bouffant coif, which he reportedly sported in order to make him appear taller.
While Jong-Un is possibly more comfortable with his stature, North Koreans living in China say his style choice is known locally as the ‘Chinese smuggler haircut.’
