Two members of the Kinahan gang have been jailed for taking part in a conspiracy to murder Patsy Hutch - the brother of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch.
It brings to nine the number of people who have been jailed for their roles in the planned hit, which Gardaí intercepted in March 2018.
Patrick Curtis, of Bellman’s Walk, Seville Place in Dublin, and Mohammed Smew, of Milner’s Square, Shanowen Road, Santry in Dublin, were part of a sub-cell of the Kinahan gang that was set up specifically to murder Patsy Hutch as part of the Kinahan/Hutch feud.
The plan was to lure Mr Hutch from his home in order to set up an opportunity for a hit team that was lying in wait nearby, to shoot him.
The operation was meticulously planned out, but the gang wasn’t aware they were under Garda surveillance.
Mr Justice Tony Hunt described Curtis as ‘the top figure within’ the sub-cell. He jailed him for ten years for directing the activities of a criminal organisation.
He acknowledged the lesser role played by Smew, before jailing him for seven and a half years.
