A Kinahan cartel gunman has been jailed for 11 years for conspiring to murder a man, who was shot ten times outside his home in Dublin.
Jason O’Connor, of Whitestown Grove, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, was seeking revenge for the murder of his friend, who was killed in a case of mistaken identity.
In June 2015, O’Connor’s friend Keith Walker was shot dead in a case of mistaken identity.
He wasn’t the target of the attack – O’Connor was.
Haunted by his friend’s death, the court heard O’Connor sought revenge and on December 5th, a man called Charlie Cooper was shot outside his home.
Despite being shot ten times, he survived the attack and has made a full recovery.
The seizure of an encrypted phone found in O’Connor’s house linked him to the attempted murder, and also revealed his ties to the Kinahan Organised Crime Group.
Today, Mr Justice Tony Hunt noted his involvement with what he described as a “very sinister criminal group” before sentencing him to eleven years in prison.
