More arrests are expected in the coming days as Gardaí continue to investigate the disappearance of Kyran Durnin.

Kyran, who would now be eight-years-old, has not been seen since 2022 and Gardaí fear he is dead.

Earlier this week, a woman was arrested on suspicion of murder but later released without charge

Yesterday, a man was arrested in the Drogheda area and Gardaí are still questioning him

“He can be held until today, at which point he will have to be released or charged with a crime,” Irish Times Security Editor Conor Lally told Newstalk Breakfast

“As he is being questioned, Gardaí also began searches of two houses in Drogheda.

“One of those searches was completed very quickly and the other is still ongoing.

“We expect there will be excavations in the back garden of that property today; there was a large Garda team on site yesterday.”

Gardaí described the second search as “intrusive” and teams from the Divisional Search team, the Garda National Technical Bureau, Divisional Scene of Crime and Forensic Science Ireland have been drafted in to help.

“There was a Cadaver dog brought in there by Gardaí yesterday afternoon,” Mr Lally said.

“That was used to indicate if there are human remains at a particular location.

“So, we expect that search to carry on for quite some time.

“We have had these rapidly moving events over the last three days with two people brought in for questioning.”

This week’s arrests are the first since Kyran was reported missing and Mr Lally said Gardaí hope this will lead to a “breakthrough” in the case.

“After the arrest of the two people this week, we certainly do expect more people to be detained by the investigation team,” he said.

Gardaí have urged anyone with information “no matter how insignificant it may seem” to get in touch with them.

“Gardaí have spoken to a lot of people who would have known Kyran and would have been in touch with him,” Mr Lally said.

“Various versions of accounts around the welfare of the boy and where he was after that last sighting of him in 2022 have been offered to the Guards.

“They’re really working their way through that; some of those details that they have gathered from various people don’t tally.

“So, they’ve got various accounts of where this child was and who he was with for periods of time.”
