Labour TDs are set to meet today to make a decision on whether or not they will continue with coalition talks.
Party leader Ivana Bacik met with Fine Gael's Simon Harris and Fianna Fáil's Micheál Martin earlier this week.
Deputy Bacik is expected to give a recommendation to her parliamentary party this afternoon on whether or not they will continue with negotiations to form a Government.
In the General Election, both Labour and the Social Democrats secured 11 seats.
The latter party, however, lost a TD this week following their suspension of Eoin Hayes.
The Dublin Bay South TD said he will sit in the Dáil as an independent until he wins back the trust of the Social Democrats.
Deputy Hayes was suspended for misleading the media over the timing of divesting shares from his former employer Palantir.
Larger parties
Fianna Fáil, who will be the largest party in the Dáil with 48 seats, have been negotiating with their former coalition partners Fine Gael this week.
These meetings have been described as "positive" and "constructive" by both parties.
Earlier this week, the outgoing Taoiseach Simon Harris said he wants the new Government to be up and running within weeks.
“My conversations with the Tánaiste are confidential but I am satisfied that there is a way forward here, subject to being able to get a serious policy framework agreed in the coming weeks,” he said.
Mr Harris said he hopes there will be a new Government in place in January.
