Redundancy procedures are beginning at Mount Carmel Hospital in Dublin today. 200 staff lost their jobs when the private hospital announced its closure last week.
The remaining redundancies will be implemented on a phased basis over the coming weeks.
25 babies have been born there since last Friday, while the final birth will take place today. 572 maternity patients have been affected by the closure.
The remaining maternity hospitals in Dublin have confirmed that they will accept any patients who wish to transfer their care to them.
Mount Carmel Medical Group says maternity patients are being contacted and are in the process of transferring their care to an alternative facility.
All elective procedures at the hospital were cancelled last Friday. Some 2,300 public patients were referred to Mount Carmel for treatment, with more than half of them yet to be treated.
"In the case of public patients, their original referring public hospital is currently seeking to reschedule their appointments at alternative facilities", it says in a statement.
