Pakistan's security forces have said they have killed a leading al-Qaeda member, Adnan el Shukrijumah.

He died in a raid in south Waziristan close to the border with Afghanistan, according to Pakistan's military.

Two other militants and one solider are also reported to have been killed in the raid.

Adnan el Shukrijumah had been wanted in connection with a plot to launch bomb attacks on a New York subway five years ago.

He is also suspected of having been involved in the plotting of attacks in Norway, the UK and Panama.

Saudi national Adnan el Shukrijumah grew up in US, spending more than 15 years in Brooklyn and Florida.
