Jake Lloyd, best known for playing the young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, has been moved to a psychiatric facility after spending the past ten months in prison.

According to TMZ, the former child star has been held at the Colleton County Detention Center in South Carolina ever since he was arrested following a high speed chase last year. His mother, Lisa Lloyd, revealed to the site that the retired actor has been suffering with Schizophrenia since he was 19-years-old.

Lloyd was charged with reckless driving, failure to stop, resisting arrest and driving without a license in June 2015 after leading the police on a 25-mile chase, reaching speeds of up to 117 mph as he swerved in and out of traffic in his Nissan, before abruptly turning off the road and crashing into a tree.

Lloyd hasn't made a movie in 11 years and has spoken in the past of how working on Star Wars ruined his life: "Other children were really mean to me. They would make the sound of the light saber every time they saw me. It was totally mad. My entire school life was really a living hell."

According to The Daily Mail, the actor felt so enraged with George Lucas that he destroyed all his memorabilia from that time.

"When you have something like that there's a lot of expectations for it to meet the standards of the public and I don't think George did that," he said.

Lisa has seen her son since he has been moved from prison, and has said that the improvement in his condition is already apparent.
