The community of Lifford in County Donegal has been described as “numb” after a local man drowned whilst he on holiday in Greece.
The man, who was in his late 50s, was on a family holiday and the Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance.
“The whole community here is shocked and numbed,” Fianna Fáil councillor Gerry Crawford told Newstalk.
“They’re really stunned by the news that came through this afternoon.
“The deceased person was very well known in the area, very involved with the local football club and both himself and his wife are from the parish here.
“[They’re] a very highly respected family and the community is just totally shocked.”
