Lisa Smith’s trial for alleged ISIS membership is due to get underway this morning.
The 39-year-old former soldier from Dundalk, County Louth is also facing a charge of financing terrorism before the Special Criminal Court.
Ms Smith is accused of being a member of the unlawful terrorist group ISIS or Islamic State on dates between late October 2015 and December 1st, 2019.
She’s also accused of financing terrorism through an €800 Western Union money transfer.
Her application to have the charges against her dropped was rejected yesterday.
Due to the nature of the charges, the trial is being heard before three judges of the non-jury Special Criminal Court.
Ms Smith appeared in court on bail yesterday to hear the court’s ruling on her application to dismiss the charges.
She is due back at 10.30am this morning for day one of what’s expected to be a 12-week trial.
