A man has gone on trial accused of murdering Lisa Thompson in her Dublin home almost three years ago.
Brian McHugh, of Cairn Court, Ballymun, denies murdering the mother-of-two on May 9th 2022.
Opening the case today for the prosecution, Fiona Murphy SC told the jury that Brian McHugh and Lisa Thompson were known to each other.
She said Ms Thompson’s remains were found inside her home by a concerned neighbour on May 10th 2022 – one day after it’s believed she was killed.
A cord from a window blind was found wrapped around her neck and a post-mortem revealed she died from strangulation and stab wounds to the chest.
The jury was told her front door was locked but the back door wasn’t; and an upstairs bedroom upstairs had been ransacked.
Ms Murphy SC said jewellery linked to Ms Thompson was found in Mr McHugh’s home; and that his finger prints were found on a jewellery valuation certificate found in another woman’s vehicle, which was also seized as part of the investigation.
Mr McHugh has denied the murder charge.
