Spring is upon us, and that means one thing in the zoo, new arrivals.
Just a few weeks ago, we heard about new little arrivals, two lambs and 12 Tamworth piglets were born, and then just yesterday we got news of another birth, and an endangered bongo calf was born.
The species is critically endangered, with possibly less than 150 left in the wild in a remote part of Kenya.
The zoo has also welcomed 12 Tamworth piglets, a very rare breed, they have a red colour so different to the pink and white pigs that are common in Ireland.
They’re one the oldest of pig breeds, but as with many older breeds of livestock, it is not well suited to modern production methods and is listed as "threatened".
