A €10,000 reward is being offered to people who can offer up significant information about stolen animals around the country.
Over the past two years almost 500 animals have been stolen in Ireland.
A new campaign is being launched in an effort to prevent more livestock theft.
The gardaí, Crimestoppers and the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) have joined forces in the hope of increasing the detection rates for the theft of cattle and sheep.
The campaign also aims to provide advice to farmers about the best possible ways to combat this type of crime.
It is calling on members of the public, and in particular those in the farming community, with information on the theft of cattle and sheep to come forward with information.
Information can be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers confidential telephone service by calling 1800-25-00-25. Alternatively, information can be provided to your local garda station.
The theft of both cattle and sheep causes significant problems for farmers. In one incident during 2014, one farmer had 17 of his 18 calves stolen by thieves.
IFA president, Eddie Downey, says he wants to see this type of crime stopped.
