Gardaí are continuing to search an area of wasteland near the former family home of Kyran Durnin in Dundalk.

Forensic experts have been on site at the property at Emer Terrace in the town since yesterday, and the search is expected to continue tomorrow.

The current occupants of the house are not connected in any way to Kyran or his disappearance.

A local man said everyone living in the area is in a state of shock.

“It's absolutely crazy, especially for the community as well,” he said.

“[For] something like that to happen so close by - it's shocking. Just hopefully they to get to the bottom of it. But it’s a shock.”

Timeline

The eight-year-old is missing and presumed dead. He was reported missing nearly two months ago, on the 30th of August.

A large digger, Garda forensic experts, and members of the Garda Technical Bureau have been on site at the Emer Terrace property since early this morning.

A man living across the street said he used to see the family regularly.

"I’m here now about three-and-a-half years now, and I have seen them now active,” he said.

"There was three of them there – a baby about two years ago – but we thought nothing of it.

"Over the last couple of months before they moved out, there was only two kids there.

"We thought nothing of it because we didn’t know.”

Gardaí currently believe that Kyran may have been killed over two-years ago.

They have appealed to the public to come forward with information ‘no matter how insignificant’ it may seem.
