Gardaí say burglars “spent hours” overnight in a Longford petrol station before leaving with cigarettes, alcohol and cash.

Investigators said it happened in Lanesboro between 2am and 6am on Thursday July 4th.

They entered the store by forcing a rear door and are believed to have “spent some hours there.”

Money, cigarettes and alcohol were stolen and a “considerable amount of damage” was caused inside.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the town between 1am and 7am on the night.

They are also interested in speaking to anyone who may have dash-cam footage.
