Are you dreaming of a white Christmas, or just want to look at it from beside a warm fireplace?

Either way you will have to travel a little to get a proper blanketing of snow this December 25th, as the Nordic countries are your best bet.

Norway's Trysil will have a generous 3.4cms of snowfall today.

It offers a wide range of alpine skiing activities, such as a guided tour to experience the best the mountain has to offer.

Nearby Hovden will also see between 2.7cm and 3.8cm of snow this Christmas Day.

The year-round resort is located in the upper Setesdal region and is the largest ski destination in the southern part of Norway.

Åre in Sweden will get a modest 1.1cms of snow today, while the resort of Romme Alpin will get between 1.3cm and 1.5cm of the white stuff today.

If it's skiing you're after this festive season, then Austria may be the destination for you.

Obertauern in Austria is considered to be one of the snowiest ski resorts in Europe because of its average yearly snowfall.

The area in Salzburg has 100 kilometres of pistes, and guaranteed snow from November until May.

It has the title of Austria's Snowiest Winter Sports Destination, according to the Obertauern Tourist Office.

If something more cosmopolitan suits you, Innsbruck is known as the "capital of the Alps".

It has hosted the Winter Olympics twice and has 13 ski areas and several pools.

It is also peppered with boutiques, museums, restaurants and Christmas markets.

For those looking for more slopes, or all-year skiing, the Stubai Glacier is just 45 minutes away.
