The Lord Mayor of Dublin is denying he has any objection to members of the British monarchy taking part in the 1916 centenary.
Independent Christy Burke said earlier he believed that prominent royal participation in the events would be inappropriate.
The newly-appointed Mayor says a motion, to be tabled at the next meeting of Dublin City Council, is not intended to cause offence.
He described it as a reflection of what he has been hearing from the public
"It's at the request of a number of people over the last number of weeks, who said to me that they felt if royalty was at the forefront of any of the 2016 celebrations that the focus would be lost because the focus would be on the royals. Secondly is that people who've been in touch with me, and there have been a lot, say it is the Irish nation's day" he said.
He clarified his position on Newstalk Lunchtime.
Irish figureheads have worked hard to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, this year President Michael D. Higgins enjoyed a highely successful visit to the UK.
