A lost wallet has been returned to its owner after nearly 20 years.

Gardaí in Tallaght, Co Dublin say they were handed in the wallet just yesterday.

The item, which appeared to have been buried a long time, had two cards inside - including a visa card, and a student card dated from June 2001.

The information on the cards meant gardaí were able to check their PULSE system for any information about it.

Officers were then able to contact the owner, who had indeed lost the cards and wallet two decades ago.

In a social media post, gardaí described it as a "20-year-old mystery solved in 24 hours".
