Two teenage boys have died in a “tragic drowning incident” at Lough Enagh outside Derry city.
Emergency services were called to the lough after the boys got into difficulty at around 6:25pm yesterday.
One was recovered from the water and rushed to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
A second boy was pronounced dead at the scene after he was recovered from the water following “extensive searches” by Foyle Search and Rescue and police divers.
“One other male was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening,” police said in a statement.
“Three other males were also at the scene, and while they have been left shocked, are not physically injured.”
Police said inquiries are ongoing, but they are currently treating the deaths as a “tragic drowning incident.”
