On Monday, Mr Mangione was arrested after a tip-off from a McDonald's employee in Pennsylvania.
Police claim he had both silencer and a gun in his possession that were "both consistent with the weapon used in the murder".
A New York Police Department spokesperson also said it appeared he bore "some ill-will towards corporate America".
