She died on Friday night after she was stabbed at her home at Allendale Glen.

Her brother Karl was also injured in the attack and is recovering at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.

This morning Vesel Jahiri with an address at 19 Lohunda Crescent in Clonsilla appeared at Blanchardstown District Court charged with her murder.

Detective Garda Bernard Connaughton from Blanchardstown garda station said the 31-year-old replied ‘that’s not true’ when charged with her murder at 12:20am this morning.

An application for legal aid was granted as well as a request for medical care.

Mr. Jahiri was remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Thursday.

The Energy Minister says the Cabinet has made no decision to introduce flat rate water charges for households.

It follows reports that the installation of water meters will take much longer than originally planned.

The Environment Minister announced earlier this year that meters would be in homes by 2014.

But the company responsible for installing them Irish Water says it will take up to 3 years for the job to be done.

It was reported at the weekend that a flat rate water charge would have to be introduced as an interim measure.

But Energy Minister Pat Rabbitte says no such decision has been taken by government.

“I don’t know anything about it – the first I heard about is in the coverage mooted over the weekend” he said.

“The fact of the matter is the government has asked Bord Gais Eireann to get on with the establishment of the water utility – and the water utility in due course will deal with these issues”.

“I’ve no idea why these issues are in the public domain” he added.

A man has been shot dead in Co. Laois.

The victim in his 20s was wounded in the incident in the Kilnacourt Woods Housing Estate in Portarlington at 8:30am this morning.

He was taken to Tullamore General Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

It has emerged that missing Irish woman Jill Meagher made a worried telephone call to her brother in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 29-year-old disappeared in Australia over the weekend.

She is originally from Drogheda in Co. Louth.

She was last seen at about 1:30am on Saturday morning when she left friends at a bar in Melbourne to walk the short distance home.

Her husband Thomas raised the alarm when she never arrived.

He spoke to ABC News this morning.

“So I mean like whatever happened has append and I just want to know” he said.

“I just want to know what happened”.

“Obviously all I want to see is her walk in the door; but…any clues are welcome absolutely” he added.
