The new Luther movie is “deliberately” written to leave open the possibility of a sequel, actor Idris Elba has said.
Luther: The Fallen Sun is a crime thriller about a serial killer in London.
Idris Elba stars as the brilliant but deeply flawed Detective John Luther who escapes from prison to track down the killer.
The ending of the film suggests fans have not seen the last of Luther and Elba told Newstalk Breakfast he hoped that would be the case.

“We wanted to leave the audiences wanting more,” he said.
“We want to leave the door open for us as storytellers to take Luther into different areas.
“I always felt that Luther in London - or ‘Luther land’ as they call it - is one thing.
“Can you imagine him somewhere else? I get giddy thinking about it. I might pass out in this interview.”
Luther began life as a TV series and Elba said he always believed it would make it onto the big screen in the end.
“When I first read the original TV show, it always had cinematic scope to it,” he said.
“It always had a slightly larger ambition than a television show.
“So, we always were sort of imagining this and performing it in a cinematic landscape.
“The fact that it has now turned into a film, I won’t say it was easy because it’s quite complicated to scale it up without losing its essence, but the fact that we have done that, it feels like a sense of achievement.”
Elba also said he enjoys the diversity of his acting work and the support of so many fans.
“I’ve got this career where I’m not really pigeonholed into one type of character,” he said.
“I’m always like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m still here and still going.’
“I’ve still got fans - it’s amazing."
Luther: The Fallen Sun will be available to stream via Netflix from 10th March.
