Police in the North have released new footage from the night of Lyra McKee's murder as they continue their search for those responsible.

The 29-year-old journalist was killed during riots in Derry just over a week ago.

A video released by the PSNI today shows a number of men detectives are attempting to identify, including the suspected gunman.

The footage shows men walking across Central Drive around a minute before Lyra was shot, including one man carrying a crate of petrol bombs.

While police are looking to identify all three men, it's the shortest of the three - the third man circled in the footage - that they believe is the gunman.

Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy said: "In the footage you can see [the third man] is shorter than both of the other men and of stocky build. It’s my belief he is the gunman that fired indiscriminately into the crowd, placed the community and police officers at risk and took the life of Lyra.

"You can see he is wearing dark clothing and in other footage you can see this clothing in a different light. People know who he is."

Detective Superintendent Murphy acknowledged that people living in the Creggan area may feel it's difficult to come forward - but moved to 'personally assure' people that any concerns will be dealt with sensitively.

He added: "At Lyra’s funeral on Wednesday we heard many messages about the potential for a better future but as I have said previously, such sentiment will all be in vain if collectively we cannot tackle the malign influence that some individuals continue to exert over our communities."

He also thanked the public for their support, saying 140 people have provided images, footage and other details.

However, he said it's vital that witnesses and people with information talk to detective about what they know.
