The M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy motorway bypass is officially opening to traffic today.
Three new sections of road have been built as part of a public private partnership scheme.
The total project cost around €400 million, and includes 57 new structures such as bridges and underpasses.
Officials say the road's aimed at reducing 'chronic traffic congestion' through Enniscorthy town, and they're estimating the bypass will lead to a reduction of 6,000 vehicles a day.
It's hoped the new road will also reduce travel times between Dublin and Wexford by between 15 and 30 minutes.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, who's officially opening the new bypass later, said: "The M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy Motorway is a first-class piece of transport infrastructure.
"I thank all involved in the efficient delivery of the project and I wish all who travel on the road a safe journey."
Cormac O’Rourke, chairman of Transport Infrastructure Ireland, added that it's a "significant milestone in modernising our national road infrastructure".
He said: "It will improve road user safety as well as help to provide the southeast region of the country with the capacity to manage economic growth well into the future.”
The new bypass will be fully open to traffic from 4pm this afternoon.
