The Justice for Magdalenes group has lodged a complaint with the UN Committee Against Torture. It says it is concerned that the government has not complied with the recommendations of the Committee.

In a statement the group says the coalition has not taken steps to ensure that all Magdalene victims get redress and compensation including the means for as full rehabilitation as possible.

It has written to the Minister for Justice Alan Shatter and Mr. Justice John Quirke to ask for an urgent meeting to discuss their queries and concerns. He was appointed by the government to advise on how to respond to the McAleese Report. Members of Justice for Magdalenes will also meet with Mr. Justice Quirke this Wednesday.

The government apologised to Magdalene Laundry survivors last month and announced on that the President of the Irish Law Reform Commission Mr. Justice Quirke would be charged with investigating and reporting back to government with recommendations within 3 months as to the "establishment of an ex gratia Scheme (to operate on a non-adversarial basis)" for survivors of the Magdalene Laundries.

The government also asked that those who wish to do so to register their interest "in the receipt of benefits from the Magdalene Laundry Fund" by women who spent time in Laundries and are still alive.

However the group says that they remain concerned that the women's rights to reparation and redress have not yet been vindicated by the government.

They claim the government has not yet complied with the June 2011 recommendation of the Committee to "ensure that all victims obtain redress and have an enforceable right to compensation, including the means for as full rehabilitation as possible".
