ICTU has endorsed a proposal to hold a series of 'major demonstrations' next February to demand a restructuring of Irish debt.
Congress says demonstrations will be held on February 9th in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Sligo, Limerick and Waterford.
They are being timed to coincide with European Unions (EU) Council of Ministers' meetings being held here under our Presidency of the EU in 2013.
The Executive Council met in Dublin this morning.
Anger over lack of progress
ICTU says they want to highlight the transfer of debt from banks to the Irish people.
Trade unionists are angry at the lack of progress the government has made since EU leaders recommended severing the link between bank debt and sovereign debt.
General Secretary of ICTU is David Begg.
He says the debt is unsustainable and we cannot keep trying to cut our way out of the recession.
