Government forces in Mali have recalimed several areas from Islamist militia forces, who seized control of Northern Mali last April.

French authorities stepped in to assist the government with fights against rebels this weekend, performing air attacks on Islamist insurgents.

Several neighbouring countries, including Algeria and Niger, have also pledged support and troops to Mali's government.
