A man in his 20s has died in a single-vehicle crash in Kildare.
Gardaí said the crash happened on the M7 at Curraghfarm near Kildare at roughly 8.45pm yesterday, January 1st.
The car was travelling west between junctions 12 and 13 before it left the motorway and hit a raised grass bank.
One of the passengers, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was taken to Tallaght University Hospital for injuries that are not life-threatening.
The two other passengers of the car, also men aged in their 20s, did not require immediate treatment.
The M7 westbound between junctions 12 and 13 are currently closed for technical examination. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí in Kildare have launched an appeal for witnesses of the crash to come forward.
They are particularly interested in talking to road users who were in the area at the time and may have camera footage.
This is the first reported road death of 2024. Some 184 people died on Irish roads in 2023, a 19% compared to 2022.
