Gardaí are investigating the fatal assault of a woman in her 30s in Wilton, Co Cork. 

The body was discovered after emergency services were called to a home at approximately 10.10pm on Friday, July 14th. She was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at a Garda station in Cork City centre, where he can be held for up to 24 hours.

Investigations are ongoing, and the woman’s body remains at the scene for a technical examination this morning. 

Gardaí said the State Pathologist has been notified and a postmortem will take place in due course. 

A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to the investigation.
