The Central Criminal Court has heard the man accused of murdering Adrian Donohoe initially lied to gardaí about his whereabouts on the night in question.

Aaron Brady of New Road, Crossmaglen, Co Armagh has pleaded not guilty to robbery and the capital murder of Detective Donohoe.

Detective Donohoe was shot dead during an armed robbery outside Lordship Credit Union at about 9.30pm on January 25th 2013.

A BMW Aaron Brady was a passenger in was stopped the following afternoon a short distance away.

Inspector John Moroney told the jury Mr Brady said he called over to his girlfriend at 7pm the previous evening and didn't leave until 3am.

Mr Brady claimed his friend, the driver of the BMW, collected him from hers, and that they then went to his friend's house to play FIFA.

Inspector Moroney said Mr Brady was "very relaxed" during their conversation.

He said the friend seemed "nervous" when he spoke to him, and told the jurors their timings didn't marry up.

In relation to this, Mr Brady's barrister told the jurors that his client later went to gardaí and told them the account he gave was untrue.
