A court's heard a Dublin man allegedly used a boat to steal crates of crabs and lobsters in Dalkey yesterday before being pursued by gardai along the River Liffey.

40 year old Mark Davis of Knockmore Avenue in Tallaght is accused of stealing the shellfish and two outboard motors from Bullock Harbour.

The total haul is valued at 8 thousand euro.

Garda Orla Cooper gave evidence that the 40 year old was arrested at Poolbeg having been pursued by gardai and harbour police along the River Liffey.

Davis "who has been on disability allowance since 2005" was asked by Judge James Faughnan how he had bought a boat valued at 17 hundred euro – "saved up your honour' was the reply.

The 40 year old is accused of theft and handling stolen goods and will appear in court again this day week.

He has been granted bail on strict terms including directions to stay out of all ports in Dublin bay.
