A man has admitted killing a 26-year-old father of 3 whose remains were found in a shallow grave in the Wicklow mountains 2 and a half years ago.

Clement Byrne of Clonattin Village, Gore in Co. Wexford was charged with murdering 26-year-old Steven O'Meara. However his plea of guilty to manslaughter has been accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

49-year-old Mr. Byrne was arraigned and pleaded guilty to manslaughter at the Central Criminal Court this morning. He has admitted killing Mr. O'Meara on or about August 6th 2009 at Ballydonnell Wood in Redcross.

Last year another man Michael Dickenson - known as 'Pencil' Byrne - of no fixed abode was sentenced to life for murdering the father of 3. His body was found in a shallow grave on Christmas Eve 5 months after his disappearance.

The evidence was that Steven O'Meara had tried to collect a drugs debt and was driven to the woods where he was shot. After entering his plea Clement Byrne was remanded in custody for sentencing on June 10th.
