A man has been seriously injured in an alleged assault in Donegal.

Gardaí attended the scene of an incident in Lifford this morning, where two men were allegedly seriously assaulted.

A man in his 20s was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, for treatment of serious injuries.

The second man, aged in his 60s, was brought by ambulance to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment of less-serious injuries.

The scene is currently closed for technical examination.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing.
