A five-year-old boy has died after an incident at a water park in Leicestershire and two people have been arrested, according to police in the UK.

Officers were called to Bosworth Water Park at 3.50pm yesterday after a young boy, who has been named on social media as Charlie, was taken to hospital, where he later died.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding his death, and a man and a woman are currently being held in police custody.

In a statement, Leicestershire Police said: "We would ask that people do not speculate about the incident and the circumstances surrounding the death and leave the authorities to carry out their investigations."

A statement issued on the Facebook page of Bosworth Water Park said: "From all of the staff at Bosworth Water Park, we would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this tragic loss of life."

As part of their appeal for information, investigators have asked for any one who took video footage around the blue lagoon beach on Saturday to contact them.

On the water park's website, the blue lagoon beach is described as "the only place children actually entertain themselves".

It adds: "Built in 2015 this attraction brings the seaside inland.

"The crystal clear blue water invites the kids in for a paddle leaving parents relaxing on the golden sand or well looked after grassed areas surrounding the lagoon."
