A man and a woman are in serious condition in hospital after a serious crash in County Limerick.

It happened on the Limerick to Newport road at Drominboy shortly after 8.30pm last night.

It is understood the car hit a wall and a pole before overturning on its roof.

A young man and woman, both in their 20s, were taken to Limerick University Hospital where they are being treated for serious injuries.

The woman was found trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by fire crews using specialist cutting equipment.

Gardaí closed the stretch of road and diversions were put in place while the driver, a man, and the female passenger were treated at the scene, before being rushed to University Hospital Limerick.

Gardaí are asking for witnesses to get in touch and are particuarly interested in anyone with dash cam footage who was traveling on the R503 road near Lisngry between 7.45pm and 8.45pm.
