A 31-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Mary Ward in Belfast.
Ahmed Abdirahman, with an address at Kinlay House, Dame Street, Dublin, was arrested in Dublin city centre earlier this week.
Mary Ward, a 22-year-old mother-of-one, was found dead in her home at Melrose Street in south Belfast on October 1st.
It is believed she was murdered six days before she was found.
Following a joint operation between police forces on both sides of the border, Ahmed Abdirahman was arrested in Dublin city two days ago.
In a statement, the PSNI confirmed that the investigation will now be led by An Garda Síochána.
After he was charged with Ms Ward’s murder last night, the court heard Mr Abdirahman replied, “not guilty.”
He was remanded in custody today but his solicitor told the judge he intends to make an application for bail before the High Court as soon as possible.
