A man has appeared in court charged in connection with a knife attack in Dublin City Centre on Saturday morning.

34-year-old Quham Babatunde died following the incident between South Anne Street and Duke Lane.

A second man in his 30s was also injured during the course of the assault at around 3am on Saturday.

21-year-old Jeffrey Bangu of Cardy Rock Crescent, Balbriggan, County Dublin is one of three men arrested as part of the investigation into Mr Babatunde’s death.

Mr Bangu appeared before Dublin District Court this afternoon charged with assault causing harm to both men, violent disorder and producing a knife in the course of a fight.

The alleged assault of Mr Babatunde occurred on Duke Lane, near the location of the other charges on South Anne Street.

The court was told Mr Bangu made no reply to the charges.

No application for bail was made and he was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court via video link on the 25th of February for DPP direction.

Two men, arrested in Dublin and Belfast, remain in Garda and Police custody for questioning in relation to the incident.
