A lorry driver charged in connection with the discovery of the bodies of 39 people in a refrigerated trailer in Essex in England has been remanded in custody.
25-year-old Maurice Robinson, of Craigavon in County Armagh, will appear at the Old Bailey in London on November 25th for a further hearing.
He has been charged with 39 counts of manslaughter, conspiracy to traffic people, conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration, and money laundering.
He appeared via videolink at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court this morning, and made no application for bail.
Three other people arrested in connection with the investigation last week have since been released on bail.
On Saturday, a man was arrested in Dublin as part of an international investigation into the deaths of 39 people in the UK.
The man, aged in his early 20s and from Northern Ireland, was arrested at Dublin Port on foot of an outstanding court order for an offence.
An Garda Síochána said police in Essex have an interest in this man as part of their investigation.
Officials in the UK are continuing their efforts to identify those who died and where they are from.
In a statement on Saturday, the force said: "This process works in tandem to the investigative process – as we look to both identify those who have died and identify and preserve any forensic evidence so that we can achieve justice for each of these victims and their loved ones."
Police initially believed all of the dead were Chinese nationals, but the force has since said it is "a developing picture", with reports that some of the victims may be Vietnamese.
