A man aged in his 70s has been arrested by Gardaí investigating the murder of Marie Tierney.
The 34-year-old married mother of two went missing in Kilkenny on October 22nd 1984, after leaving her home in the family car.
She had left the house at Clintstown, Jenkinstown on the evening of October 21st at around 10.30pm in a Renault 18 Estate - registration number 35-HIP.
The car was later found later that same day at Newpark in Kilkenny.
A comprehensive search was carried out and Marie's body was discovered on the Bleach Road on December 21st that year.
A man in his 70s was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the investigation.
The man is currently being held at Kilkenny Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardaí say investigations are continuing.
Overall, more than 500 lines of inquiry have been opened and over 200 witness statements recorded.
In October last year, her body was exhumed from Conahy Graveyard and taken for examination to Waterford University Hospital.
