A man has been arrested following an armed robbery in Co Kildare this morning.

Just after 8am two males armed with a firearm entered a shop in Johnstown and held staff up before escaping with a sum of money. 

No shots fired during the raid and no one was injured. 

The man, who is aged in his 30s, was arrested shortly afterwards close to the scene. The firearm and a sum of cash were recovered.

A second man involved in the incident escaped in a car which has since been located and enquiries are ongoing.
