A man has been arrested after a car was hijacked at knifepoint in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
It happened on the Belgard Road near Clondalkin at around 2.45am.
Gardaí said a man was stopped at traffic lights when a man brandishing a knife approached his car.
The hijacker got into the car and forced the man to drive to another location.
The driver then managed to escape from the car and contacted Gardaí.
Investigators later found the car unoccupied and arrested a man in his 30s nearby.
He is now being held at a Garda Station in West Dublin.
Gardaí are now calling for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who was travelling on the Belgard Road or in the Clondalkin area this morning between 2am and 3am.
Anyone who was in the area and may have camera footage is urged to contact Gardaí.
