A man has been arrested after the gates at Government Buildings were damaged in an apparent ramming overnight. 

Gardaí said it happened around 2.30am on Merrion Street Upper. 

Images show damage to a white van near Government Buildings with at least three gates damaged. 

One gate was taken off its hinges, images show. 

A man in his 40s has been arrested for offences under the Road Traffic Act and is currently being held at a Garda station in the city. 

The scene at Merrion Street remains preserved for examination.

Gardaí are also investigating incidents of criminal damage near Áras an Uachtaráin at Phoenix Park.

They are also investigating a material damage road traffic collision near the Department of Housing at Custom House Quay and Áras an Uachtaráin at Phoenix Park. 

Investigations are ongoing.
