A man has been arrested after another man's body was found in Co Sligo on Tuesday.
Gardaí say they are investigating the death of the man in Sligo town in 'unexplained circumstances'.
The body of the man aged in his 50s was found at an apartment on Connaughton Road at around 10:30pm.
He had received "significant physical injuries", Gardaí say.
This scene remains preserved and the Garda Technical Bureau will conduct technical and forensic examinations at the apartment.
The man's body remains at the scene, and a post mortem will be carried out later on Wednesday.
Officers say this will assist in the course of the criminal investigation.
While at approximately 1:45am on Wednesday, following "intense local Garda activity and enquiries", Gardaí arrested a man in his early 20s on suspicion of murder.
They were assisted by the Armed Support Unit.
The arrested man is currently being detained under section 4 Criminal Justice Act at Sligo Garda station.

It is the second murder in Sligo since Monday, while there were also reports of an attack on another man in the town, who was assaulted and lost an eye.
However it is unclear at this stage if any of the incidences are linked.
