A man's been arrested after a he barricaded him self inside a house in Sligo.
Shortly after 12 o'clock last night, gardai received a telephone call of suspicious activity at a house approximately two miles outside Sligo town on the Strandhill Rd locally known as Scardenmore.
On arrival gardai saw a man in his 30's in the house carrying a firearm. The man discharged a firearm in the direction of Gardai and members of the gardai made their way back to the marked patrol car and requested further assistance.
The Regional Response Unit attended the scene a short time later and the man discharged further shots. Gardai returned fire and the man barricaded himself into the house.
At around 1.30pm the man exited the house. He was arrested under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act and is been detained at Sligo Garda Station.
No one was injured.
A licensed firearm was also recovered and a technical examination will be carried out.
