A man has died following a stabbing in County Kildare.
Gardaí in Naas say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in his 30s, which happened following an incident at a house in Sallins just after 3am on Sunday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
A man in his early 20s was arrested at the property and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Garda station in Kildare.
The body of the victim remains at the scene, which has been preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The local Coroner and Office of the State Pathologist have been informed and preparations are underway for a post-mortem examination.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry and an incident room has been established at Naas Garda station.
A Garda Family Liaison Officer has also been assigned to keep the deceased's family informed of developments.
Gardaí say the investigation is ongoing.
