A man has been arrested in Dublin on suspicion of murdering Mary Ward at her home in Belfast earlier this month.
The man in his 20s is being held at a Garda station in Dublin.
Gardaí are investigating the murder under the Criminal Law (Jurisdiction) Act 1976, which extends the criminal law of the State to certain acts perpetrated in Northern Ireland.
Gardaí say they are continuing to work closely with the PSNI on the investigation.
22-year-old Mary Ward was found dead at her home on Melrose Street on Tuesday, October 1st.
The PSNI yesterday launched a murder investigation into her death.
They believe she was last seen alive nearly a week earlier on Wednesday, September 25th.
The case has also been referred to Northern Ireland’s Police Ombudsman due to officers’ previous engagements with Mary.
