A 27-year-old man is due to appear in court in Cork this morning, in connection with an assault on a man whose body was found in a refuse chute at an apartment complex in the city.

The man was arrested on Tuesday and brought to the Bridewell Garda Station for questioning about the fatal attack on 59-year-old Liam Manley.

A post-mortem by Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster, confirmed he had been the victim of an assault.

Officers have been studying CCTV footage from the apartment complex to try and establish Mr Manley's last known movements and who he entered the complex with.

Identification

Gardaí had to use dental records to identify Mr Manley who was originally from Bakers' Road in Gurranebraher in Cork but had been living with the Simon Community for years.

Officers believe that Mr Manley's body may have been in the chute for between one and two days when he was found last Monday evening.

Mr Manley was last seen alive on Friday May 10th but Gardaí are still trying to piece together his last known movements.
