A man has been arrested in the UK in connection with a Kerry house fire that claimed the lives of a father and his five-year-old daughter.
29-year-old Anthony O’Brien and his young daughter Nadine died in the fire at their home in Kileen Heights, Tralee on May 12th, 2012.
Anthony’s body was found in an upstairs bedroom with Nadine in his arms after firefighters had extinguished the blaze.
Nadine’s mother Kelly escaped the fire through an upstairs window, suffering a broken leg in the process.
This morning, the Irish Independent reports that a man in his 40s has been arrested in the UK in connection with the fire.
It is expected he will now face extradition proceedings back to Ireland, where he will be brought before a Kerry district court.
A Garda spokesperson told Newstalk they were aware that a man had been arrested in the UK on foot of a Trade and Cooperation Agreement Warrant (TCA).
The TCA warrant was introduced in place of the European Arrest Warrant following Brexit.
The spokesperson said the arrest currently remains a matter for the UK authorities.
Back in 2022, three people were arrested by Gardai investigating the fire.
