A man has been arrested following an incident on Parnell Square involving a knife in Dublin city centre this morning.
The man in his 30s was reportedly brandishing a knife in the Parnell Street and Parnell Square areas in the city centre around 9am this morning.
It’s understood that Gardaí received a call that a man with a knife was acting in a threatening manner and they were quickly scene and arrested the man on Parnell Street.
Gardaí said the man was arrested for offences related to the Firearms and Offences Weapons Act and is currently being held at a Garda station in the city centre.
While there are no injuries reported, Gardaí said they had been conducting regular patrols in the area and these patrols will continue.
There is still a visible Garda presence in the area this afternoon and they are liaising with locals in the area.
The incident happened near the site of the knife attack last November which left a five-year-old girl and a creche worker in critical condition and two other young children injured.
There is no evidence that today’s arrest is in connection with the stabbing in November, which Gardaí have described as most likely a “standalone incident”.
